RAMALLAH, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Upcoming meeting between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the leader of rival Hamas movement, Khaled Mashaal, will bring "no surprises," a Palestinian official said Thursday.
At the meeting initially set to be held in Egypt's capital of Cairo at the end of this month, the two rivals will discuss the future of the Palestinian National Authority and Palestine Liberation Organization in light of the setback in the peace process, said Azzam al-Ahmad, a senior member of Abbas' Fatah party.
The two parties will also talk about efforts to implement reconciliation that they signed in Cairo in May. Delegations will also meet in Cairo to thoroughly discuss all the articles of the deal.
The agreement envisioned the formation of a technocratic government to rule the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip and the West Bank. Within a year after the government is formed, general elections would be held.
However, Abbas insisted to retain his West Bank Prime Minister Salam Fayyad and Hamas' refusal to this so far has blocked the implementation of the agreement.
