Hamas is attending the board meeting of the Yasser Arafat Foundation for the first time at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo on Thursday.

Hamas deputy politburo chief Moussa Abu Marzouq will address the foundation's board of trustees for its sixth meeting, attended by league secretary-general Nabil al-Arabi, the head of the foundation Nasser al-Qidra told Ma'an.

Abu Marzouq will brief the foundation about reconciliation, al-Qidra said.

The Hamas leader told Ma'an that no date had been set for the next round of reconciliation talks between his movement and Fatah, but said a meeting would be held soon in Cairo.

"We hope to end the division as soon as possible," Abu Marzouq said.

Fatah leader Azzam al-Ahmad will also address the conference.

"My brother Moussa Abu Marzouq and I will submit a report regarding what we have reached with reconciliation and the importance of accomplishing it as soon as possible," he told Ma'an.

"We need to unite all Arab efforts that lead to unify all the Palestinian efforts in order to achieve Palestinian reconciliation," he added.

Al-Ahmad said the presence of high-level Arab officials confirmed the centrality of the Palestinian issue.

Former Arab League chief Amr Moussa gave the opening speech at the meeting, and said that despite Egypt's domestic problems, Cairo would never be too busy for the Palestinian cause.

The investigation into the death of Arafat and the situation of Palestinians in Syria are also on the agenda for the conference.
