A top Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine leader said Sunday that a technical committee composed of officials from both the West Bank and Gaza Strip will meet in Cairo to discuss alleviating a fuel crisis in Gaza.
Talal Abu Tharifeh said the committee would discuss solutions with Egyptian authorities with the aim of increasing the electricity from an Egyptian line into the besieged territory.
According to Abu Tharifeh, the energy authority in Gaza has determined that the problem is centered on the amounts of electricy coming from Egypt and Israel. He said they don't cover more than 50 percent of needs.
"The electricity crisis is the responsibility of the factions, who are supposed to defend the Palestinian people. The crisis has increased and harmed every sector as temperatures rise at the start of Ramadan."
