GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- A 20-year-old man is in intensive care after setting himself on fire on Friday in Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, the health ministry said. Witnesses told Ma'an that Muhammad al-Khudri doused himself in gasoline and set himself on fire. Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qidra said al-Khudri was admitted to the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis with severe burns.


Prominent Ramla figure found murdered in mosque

The body of a prominent member of Ramla's Muslim community was found Friday inside the city's Great Mosque. The victim was identified as Muhammad Taji Abu Jamil, an official who oversaw the affairs of the Waqf in the city. Magen David Adom emergency services were called to the scene but had no choice but to pronounce him dead. The Ramla Police have launched an investigation.

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Twenty Palestinians were killed overnight Tuesday in a refugee camp in southern Syria, a Damascus-based Palestinian group said. The coordinating committee of Yarmouk refugee camp told Ma'an that 20 Palestinians in Deraa camp were killed and dozens injured in heavy bombing by the Syrian army.

A Lebanese security official says a Hezbollah commander and several other fighters from the militant group have been killed in Syria. The Shiite Muslim group is a strong ally of the Syrian regime. The Syrian opposition has long accused the group of assisting President Bashar Assad crack down on the 18-month-old uprising, a claim the group has denied.

  DAMASCUS, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- A pro-government radio said four Palestinian refugees were killed Friday when armed groups fired mortar shells at the al-Nairab camp in Syria's northern province of Aleppo. Sham FM gave no further details, but also reported that loud explosion was heard Friday in the coastal city of Banyyas. It said, however, that the details surrounding the blast are still emerging.

Palestinian smuggler dies in tunnel cave-in

GAZA, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian worker died when a smuggling tunnel on the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt collapsed Wednesday, medical sources said. Medics at Abu Yusuf al Najjar hospital in Rafah city identified the man as Sulieman al-Masri, 24. Two other workers were injured in the tunnel cave-in, the medics added.
