Americans who care about putting the economy back on track and restoring American greatness have ample reasons to vote for Mitt Romney. And Americans who care about Israel have particularly important reasons to support Governor Romney. The last four years have been damaging for America’s influence in the Middle East and undermining the security of our most important ally there, Israel.

Tens of millions of Americans will go to the polls on Tuesday to vote for a president and vice president. It will be an important day for American democracy. This will be the Americans' day, but the outcome of the elections will impact the entire world. For Americans in general, and American Jews in particular, the United States' attitude toward Israel is just one of many factors to consider - among internal and foreign affairs, the economy and defense - when casting their vote.

President Obama is not popular among Israeli Jews. A few days ago, a poll asked which presidential candidate would be preferable concerning Israel's interests. Fifty-seven percent of Israeli Jews preferred Romney, while 22% said Obama. Among Israeli Arabs, Obama was the preferred candidate.


U.S. police officials study counterterrorism in Israel

WASHINGTON (JTA) – Counterterrorism officials from five U.S. cities met with their counterparts in Israel. Ten officials from five major cities -- New York; Los Angeles; Oakland, Calif.; Austin, Texas; and Houston -- met in mid-October with representatives of Israel's police, the Jerusalem Post reported. The tour focused on "technological and operational advances in counterterrorism," according to the American Jewish Committee's Project Interchange, which organized the tour. Separately, the New York Police Department now has a branch in Israel.

Who will emerge victorious on November 6? Will it be the sitting President Barack Obama or his Republican challenger, Mitt Romney? In no part of the world will the outcome of the US presidential election be awaited with greater anxiety than in the Middle East. Monday’s foreign policy debate between the two contestants was not reassuring.
