Fatah official Azzam al-Ahmad said Thursday that Egyptian officials told him they have not received a proposal from Hamas on reconciliation between their parties.
Hamas leader Salah Bardawil told Ma'an on Wednesday that the party had outlined steps towards reconciliation in a paper handed to Egypt, and he hoped Fatah would respond quickly.
Al-Ahmad told Palestinian Authority-owned radio station Voice of Palestine on Thursday that Egyptian officials had no information about the document.
He said he met with Cairo-based Hamas leader Mousa Abu Marzouq recently, and he hadn't mentioned anything about the proposal.
"We don’t need new documents, dialogues, suggestions and bilateral or collective messengers," al-Ahmad told the station.
He called on Hamas to implement last year's reconciliation deal, and blamed the party for abandoning reconciliation to deal with its own internal reorganization.
Egypt mediated a reconciliation treaty that both parties signed in Cairo in May 2011 but the agreement to form a unity government and hold elections was not implemented, with both sides blaming the other for its collapse.
Hamas and Fatah have led separate governments in Gaza and the West Bank since 2007.
