Jordan's King Abdullah II on Wednesday said Romania and the EU play a fundamental role in supporting efforts to attain lasting peace and security in the Middle East, the state-run Petra news agency reported.
The Jordanian leader underlined the need for intensified efforts to help the Palestinians and the Israelis resume peace talks that address all final status issues leading to the creation of an independent Palestinian state that lives in peace and security along with Israel.
Abdullah II made his remarks at a meeting with Romanian President Traian Basescu Wednesday, where the two sides looked into developments in the Middle East and North Africa and efforts to revitalize the peace process.
On bilateral ties, they underlined the need for more cooperation in different areas, especially in fields of economy, politics and investments.
The Romanian president, who will visit Jordan again in the fall of this year, voiced appreciation of Jordan's efforts to push the process forward.
He stressed that his country is keen on resuming Palestinian- Israeli peace talks to realize peace in the Middle East based on the two-state solution.
