Fatah party said in a statement on Tuesday that it is investigating allegations that one of its senior members has sent weapons to forces loyal to Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.
"These allegations are under investigation and the central committee will take suitable measures," Fatah's central committee said in its statement.
Media reports quoted sources from Libyan rebels as saying that Fatah's central committee member Mohammed Dahlan and his aide sent an Israeli ship carrying weapons to Libya through Greece, who had mediated between Israel and pro-Gaddafi forces to secure the delivery of the weapons.
If true, such involvement "contradicts with the movement's principles and the Palestinian people's interest," said the statement, stressing that the Palestinians are careful not to intervene in internal affairs of other countries.
The statement noted that the central committee suspended Dahlan's membership months ago "due to political and partisan violations, " adding that the second guy whose name appeared in the media reports was not a Fatah member "and has no relation with Fatah."
