Fourteen Palestinian supreme court justices have filed a lawsuit against the Palestinian Authority, prime minister and finance minister Salam Fayyad, and transportation minister Sa’di Al-Krunz.
The plaintiffs complain that the Ramallah-based Palestinian government’s decision to reduce the number of government cars used by civil servants has inflicted social and financial harm on them.
The complaint suggests that PA's decision inflicted heavy material and moral damage on the plaintiffs without any legal right. The plaintiffs say that they were privileged to have government cars to enhance their prestige as their counterparts in many countries in the world.
Furthermore, after the government agreed to give them cars a year earlier, the justices sold private cars because they never expected the government to revoke the new ones. Thus, they claim that they would need to borrow a lot of money to buy private cars, court documents obtained by Ma'an show.
The plaintiffs are Eiman Kathim Abdullah Nasser Addin, Fathi Hammouda Hasan Abu Srour, Muhammad Samih Salim Murtada Dweik, Imad Salim As’ad Abdullah Sa’d, Hisham Rubin Issa Al-Hatou, Mustafa Ahmad Jum’a Al-Qaq, Abdullah Mousa Ghuzlan Al-Abbasi, Rafiq Hisham Abdul-Rahim Zuhd, Khalil Muhammad Rashid As-Sayyad, Othman Salih Othman At-Takrouri At-Tamimi, Mahmoud Muhammad Hammad Abu Hammad, Hani Bulus Salim An-Natour, Adnan Abdul-Karim Muhammad Shu, and Ibrahim Shihda Abed Rabbo Amr.
