DAMMAM (Petra) - His Majesty King Abdullah held talks with King Abdullah Ben Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia on Wednesday on efforts to launch serious and effective negotiations to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of the two-state solution within a regional context.
His Majesty briefed the Saudi leader on his talks with US President Barack Obama in Washington last week, which tackled the need for immediate action to launch negotiations in accordance with the agreed-on terms of reference, especially the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative.
King Abdullah, who returned home later in the day, and the Saudi leader also discussed mechanisms required to continue coordination of positions with a unified Arab stance that creates a suitable atmosphere for ending the conflict and establishing an independent Palestinian state.
The two leaders emphasised that the two-state solution leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on international resolutions and the peace overture is the sole method to bring about a comprehensive and just peace in the Middle East.
During the talks, which continued over a lunch banquet, the two leaders underlined the urgent need to realise Palestinian internal accord and end the divide to serve the interests of the Palestinians.
Talks also covered means to activate and foster joint Arab action and the need to develop cooperation among Arab states to protect their interests and stand up to challenges facing them.
On bilateral ties, the two leaders underscored their keenness to cement relations and enhance them in different sectors, expressing their satisfaction over the level of cooperation between the two countries.
