His Majesty King Abdullah said on Thursday the two-state solution is the sole way to end the conflict in the Middle East and bring about security and stability in the region.
He called for rallying international efforts to support Palestinian-Israeli negotiations based on this solution.
In a lecture at the Royal College of Defence Studies during a visit to London, the Monarch said the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative still provides a proper ground to achieve comprehensive peace that addresses the various aspects of the Arab-Israeli conflict.
His Majesty expressed hope that the new US administration would be directly involved in the peace process and build on what was achieved in the Mideast negotiations.
In this regard, the King underlined the need for continued efforts by the international community to maintain the momentum of the talks.
He urged an end to the suffering of the Palestinians through taking practical steps that include the freezing of Israeli settlement activities, removing blockades and enhancing the living conditions of Palestinians.
Meanwhile, the King called for backing Iraq rebuilding efforts, adding that the country’s security and stability are a basic pillar of stability and security in the entire region.
In the lecture, attended by students and professors from the world-renowned college, King Abdullah said Jordan will continue the process of reform and modernisation.
The Monarch also referred to efforts to strengthen the middle class in the Kingdom.
During the visit, the King met with several students at the college, which was created in 1927.
King Abdullah arrived in London on Thursday as part of a tour that took him to Algeria and the US.
In Algiers, the King discussed with President Abdulaziz Bouteflika political developments at the Arab and regional levels and efforts exerted to push forward the peace process in the region.
During his visit to the US, His Majesty addressed a conference on interfaith dialogue that was held at the United Nations General Assembly upon an invitation by King Abdullah Ben Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia.
