Do Israelis support a strike on Iran?
ATFP World Press Roundup Article from Politico by Shibley Telhami - (Opinion) February 28, 2012 - 1:00am When President Barack Obama meets Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington next week, Iran’s nuclear program is likely to top their agenda. With increasing signals that Israel may be contemplating a strike against Iran’s nuclear facilities, the United States and its European allies have made no secret of their opposition. In the face of this mounting public disapproval, Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman declared that the issue is no one else’s business and that the allies’ opposition won’t influence Israel’s decision. But how do the Israeli people feel? |

How Israel might strike at Iran
ATFP World Press Roundup Article from BBC News by Jonathan Marcus - (Analysis) February 27, 2012 - 1:00am It is this that in large part has guided the development of the Israeli Air Force (IAF) over recent years. The IAF has purchased 125 advanced F-15I and F-16I warplanes, equipped with Israeli avionics and additional fuel tanks - tailor-made for long-range strike missions. In addition, Israel has bought specialised bunker-busting munitions; developed large, long-endurance, unmanned aircraft; and much of its training has focused on long-range missions. Israel has a track-record of pre-emptive strikes against nuclear targets in the region. |

What About Israel's Atomic Weapons?
ATFP World Press Roundup Article from The Jewish Daily Forward by Leonard Fein - (Opinion) February 26, 2012 - 1:00am What About Israel's Atomic Weapons? Israel’s best kept secret is not of the “maybe yes, maybe no” variety. In fact it is a “yes” so definitive that it has 162 million Google entries. Honest. That’s what Google’s response is when you type in “Israel’s nuclear policy” — books, articles, essays, arguments, all blithely recognizing that Israel has nuclear arms. |

If there were no Iranian threat
ATFP World Press Roundup Article from Haaretz by Doron Rosenblum - (Opinion) February 24, 2012 - 1:00am None of the people who, correctly, fear an Israeli attack on Iran and the war that would follow have considered the fact that "the next war" is already here. It has been entrenched in our consciousness and that of our leaders so deeply and for so long that most of the tension concerns its timing, not its probability. What was it that Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz was quoted as saying this week? |

Why Israel wants to bomb Iran
ATFP World Press Roundup Article from Gulf News by Paul Findley - (Opinion) February 24, 2012 - 1:00am Will Iran bomb Israel into rubble, like Hiroshima and Nagasaki, if the Tehran regime is someday armed with nuclear weapons? No one of my acquaintances believes that will ever happen, nor do thoughtful Israelis. But many people believe Israel will soon use conventional bombs to disable Iranian nuclear research facilities. All of us should ponder why. |

If Israel strikes Iran, it'll be because Obama didn’t stop it
ATFP World Press Roundup Article from Haaretz by Ari Shavit - (Opinion) February 23, 2012 - 1:00am Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dealt primarily with three things over the past three years: Iran, Iran, and Iran. In the first instance, Netanyahu was busy making sure Iran was on top of the international agenda. While our prime minister won't say so out loud, he is deeply scornful of his predecessors for spending so much time on the Palestinian issue while neglecting the Iranian issue. |

Israelis Seem Resigned to a Strike on Iran
ATFP World Press Roundup Article from The Washington Post by Joel Greenberg - February 22, 2012 - 1:00am TEL AVIV — A recent installment of the popular Israeli satirical television show “A Wonderful Country” captured the public mood here regarding a possible strike on Iran and its consequences: a mix of resignation and gallows humor. In one scene, a house-hunting couple is shown a Tel Aviv apartment facing a drab housing project as a real estate agent proclaims that the place will have a view of the sea. “In June, that whole row of buildings won’t be here anymore,” she cheerfully informs the prospective buyers, gazing out a window. |
