ATFP Senior Fellow Hussein Ibish was interviewed on August 16 by CNN's Rick Sanchez on the former Israeli soldier who posted pictures posing with and mocking Palestinian prisoners on Facebook. Ibish said the mockery was an aberration and that this is a test case for the Israeli military and establishment and that if it really is as egregious as they say it is, they must do something to show that. However, he said that the reality is that this demonstrates the arbitrary power that Israeli soldiers have over Palestinians, who have virtually no recourse when they are abused. He told the audience there was a long and well-documented history of Palestinians being abused by Israeli troops enforcing the occupation. He said the occupation is corrosive for both the Palestinians who suffer under it and for the Israeli troops who have to enforce it and that as long as a relationship of dominance and subordination persists, incidents of this kind are
inevitable.
