A Palestinian youth set himself on fire Thursday at a Hamas government office in northern Gaza Strip after a dispute with an employee there, security sources and witnesses said.

The young man received third-degree burns and was taken to hospital, where doctors said he was in a stable condition.

The incident happened in the headquarters of the Hamas ministry of social affairs, where the youth used gasoline to burn himself in protest.

Three employees who were trying to save the youth were slightly injured. Police spokesman Ayman Batniji said an immediate investigation was opened.

Several Palestinians burnt themselves in protest of deteriorating economic situation in Gaza, and at least two of them died.
