Four rockets were fired on Wednesday from the direction of the Sinai Peninsula toward an Israeli community on the border with Egypt.

One of the rockets exploded in a moshav in the Eshkol Regional Council. The other three landed in the moshav's citron field.

Rockets are periodically fired from the Sinai Peninsula. A rocket fired last June reached as far as Mitzpe Ramon.

In September, 20-year-old Corporal Natanel Yehoshua Yahalomi was killed and a comrade was wounded in a shooting incident along the Egyptian border. In June, an Israeli employee of the defense establishment and two terrorists were killed Monday morning during clashes between Israel Defense Forces soldiers and gunmen who infiltrated the southern border with Egypt.

An Iron Dome anti-missile system battery was positioned outside Israel’s southernmost city of Eilat in August, after a Grad rocket was fired at the city.

The four rockets came just as the escalation on the Gaza border began to show signs of calm. Some 110 rockets were fired from Gaza at southern Israel over the course of the week, to which the Israel Defense Forces responded with nine strikes on the coastal territory.
