(JTA) -- The rabbi of the West Bank settlement of Bat Aiyn defined a recent attack on a Palestinian taxi as “sacrilege.”

Rabbi Daniel Cohen said he hoped a police investigation of the attack, which occurred earlier this month, would show that youths from his community were not involved, Israel Radio reported on Friday.

The attack left six wounded after a Molotov cocktail hit the driving taxi. Police questioned several youths from Bat Aiyn about the incident, which happened near the settlement.

Cohen sent a letter on the subject to all of the settlement's residents, according to Israel Radio.

“We pray that the suspicions against our children turn out to be false but notwithstanding, a deliberate attack on passersby is sacrilege,” Cohen wrote in the letter, according to the report.

After the Molotov cocktail hit the taxi, it flipped over. Two of the passengers suffered serious injuries, three had moderate injuries and one was lightly wounded. Police found a second, unused Molotov cocktail near the scene. Police have defined the incident as “a nationalistic Jewish terrorist attack.”
