PA Prime Minister Salam Fayyad on Sunday applauded South Africa's move to label settlement goods, in a meeting with the country's representative in Ramallah, official media said.
Fayyad told the head of the South African representative office to the Palestinian Authority, N W Makalima, that he hoped other countries would follow South Africa's example, PA news agency Wafa reported.
"We hope this step will become international consensus both at popular and official levels," he said.
On May 10, South Africa's Department of Trade and Industry issued a directive to ban labeling products of Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank as made in Israel.
"Consumers in South Africa should not be misled into believing that products originating from the (occupied Palestinian territory) are products originating from Israel," the notice said.
Makalima assured Fayyad South Africa would continue to support Palestinian rights, and the PA's efforts to build state institutions.
