An Israeli war jet struck on Friday on a group of militants who were riding on a three-wheel motorcycle east of the southern Gaza Strip town of Khan Younis, medics and eyewitnesses said.

Adhamed Abu Silmeya, Gaza emergency spokesman, told reporters that three were wounded -- two of them in critical conditions, adding that the three were taken by an ambulance to the hospital.

The pro-Hamas Popular Resistance Committees (PRC) said in an SMS message that the Israeli war jets targeted three militants belonging to the group in al-Faraheen neighborhood east of the city of Khan Younis.

Meanwhile, Israeli Radio reported that the Israeli army targeted a group of militants east of the southern Gaza Strip city of Khan Younis after they fired two mortar shells from the area in southern Israel.

The aerial attack was carried out shortly after an Islamic Jihad militant shot and killed an Israeli soldier at the borders between southeast Gaza Strip and Israel. The Islamic Jihad militant was killed.

The armed wing of Islamic Jihad (Holy War) later claimed responsibility for the attack.

The group that is called Saraya al-Quds, or al-Quds Brigades, said in a leaflet that Ahmed Abu Nasser, one of its militants was killed after he killed an Israeli soldier during the attack on an Israeli army force at the borders.

It said that Abu Nasser was planning to cross the borderline area to infiltrate into Israel and kidnap Israeli soldiers to exchange them for Palestinian prisoners imprisoned in Israeli jails.

The Israeli army had established a security zone with 300 meters depth into the coastal enclave's territories to prevent militants from approaching the fence of the borders and infiltrate into Israel.

Sources said that the Israeli army force opened intensive fire at the area and still searching for more suspects.

Meanwhile, Palestinian medical sources said its paramedics are not able to reach the area due to the intensive Israeli gunfire.

Residents in the village of Abbassan, east of the city of Khan Younis, said that an Israeli ground force rolled into the area for 350 meters, fired heavy gunfire, which burned the fields of farmers' wheat.
