Wednesday's attack by a Palestinian who went on a bulldozing rampage in west Jerusalem, killing three people and wounding dozens, has provoked comment in the Israeli, Palestinian and regional press.

The attack raised questions in right-wing Israeli media on the partition of Jerusalem and whether retaliatory measures should be taken, while other titles called for a continuation of the peace process.

Further afield, regional press in the Middle East suggested the attack was a result of frustrations felt by many Palestinians over issues surrounding the West Bank and Gaza.

RAFFI MANN IN ISRAEL'S MA'ARIV

We must fight terrorism but not allow the bulldozer's rampage to trample down the peace process and efforts for compromise.

SHALOM YERUSHALMI IN ISRAEL'S MA'ARIV

Is there any solution for this situation of mixed population? Have we united the city too soon? Is partition still possible? Is it the solution at all?

AMOS HAREL IN ISRAEL'S HA'ARETZ

Politicians outdid each other yesterday in aggressive declarations. It seems this time they will try to raze the home of the terrorist. The IDF ceased razing homes in the West Bank in 2005 when a committee headed by Maj Gen Ehud Shani concluded that destroying homes has not proved to be a deterrent because it did more harm than good.

HANUCH DAUM IN ISRAEL'S YEDIOT AHARONOT

The blood of the murdered cries, the blood of the innocent calls on us to wake up, to cause East Jerusalem Arabs to understand that there is a price for terrorism - a painful price, to be paid by the families of the terrorist, his relatives, brothers and in-laws.

MOSHE ELAD IN ISRAEL'S YNET NEWS

It is clear to everyone that terror organisations do not rest for a moment while seeking to identify even the slightest crack in the defensive wall around our borders, and particularly around Jerusalem. The ease with which the bulldozer attack was carried out... requires the defence establishment to better prepare for thwarting such surprises.

EDITORIAL IN ISRAEL'S JERUSALEM POST

With several notable exceptions, Jerusalem Arabs tended to avoid being drawn into the second intifada. But in recent months a number of incidents have spotlighted what appears to be a trend toward radicalisation.

MUSTAFA AL-SAWWAF IN PALESTINIAN FILASTIN

The operation that took place in Jerusalem yesterday was not a surprising one. The reason for this is that the Israeli occupation is returning to practice the ugliest crimes against the Palestinians on a daily basis.

ISSAM SHAWAR IN PALESTINIAN FILASTIN

What happened in Jerusalem and the public breaking into the Rafah crossing are clear signs that the Palestinian people are fed up and can no longer remain silent. There is no way to silence or even blame them. Hence, I find it necessary that all the parties interested in calming the region work towards easing the pressure on the Palestinians and exert real pressure on Israel to make it stop its daily criminal practices.

EDITORIAL IN SAUDI ARABIA'S AL-JAZIRAH

Terrorism breeds terrorism and pressure only brings an explosion. Therefore, it should not be a surprise that Palestinians face their feelings of subjugation, humiliation and frustration by carrying out unprecedented operations.

MUSIB NU'AYMI IN IRAN'S AL-VEFAGH

The phenomenon witnessed in occupied Jerusalem yesterday is clear evidence that people will not kneel down or surrender as a result of fierce fighting, displacement, humiliation or insults. Therefore, the enemy should realise that it cannot prevent those who have rights from possessing the tools of resistance.

EDITORIAL IN UAE'S AL-KHALIJ

The Palestinian people have the right to defend themselves with all means available such as the armed resistance, stones and perseverance against the killing and genocide practised against them. Hopefully, the Jerusalem operation, with the tool used in it and its results, teaches the Zionist entity a lesson that it has to reconsider its calculations regarding its terrorist practices against the Palestinian people.
